THE QUEBEC INVESTOR PROGRAM (QIIP)

The Quebec Investor program permits applicants to finance the bulk of their investment through designated financial intermediaries. Typically, the financing schemes require payment of $350,000 before the intermediary loans the balance of $850,000 to meet the required $1.2 million investment. The government approved financial intermediary then deposits the entire sum with Investissement Québec. The down payment is not refunded at the end of the five-year period.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE QIIP

Have management experience for at least two years in the five years preceding the application for selection. This experience must include duties related to the planning, management and control of financial, human or material resources under your authority.

Sign an investment agreement with a financial intermediary (broker or trust company) authorized to participate in the Investor Program.

Obtain, by the prescribed deadline, an attestation of learning about democratic values and the Québec values. The members of your family accompanying you (your spouse of 16 years of age or older and your dependent children of 18 years of age or older) must also obtain the attestation.

And of course, intend to settle in Québec.

PERMANENT RESIDENCY

The final admission of applicants comes under the jurisdiction of the Government of Canada. After being selected by Québec, you then have to submit an application for permanent residence (visa) to the Centralized Intake Office in Canada, in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

The Government of Canada will evaluate your medical file and those of your family members. It will also carry out security checks. If you successfully complete this step, the Government of Canada will issue you a permanent resident visa.

Once you have obtained permanent residence status, you can apply for Canadian citizenship from the Government of Canada if you satisfy certain eligibility requirements. For more information, visit the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada site.
